
Botox for Chronic Migraines
Chronic migraine means one has 15 headaches per month with 8/15 being Migraine headaches.
BOTOX is a treatment that can be used to prevent headaches in adults with chronic migraine, and in fact, it has been shown to significantly reduce the number of headache days per month.

How BOTOX works
It is thought that Botox blocks pain signals, which indirectly block the development of migraine.

How BOTOX is administered
Botox is injected into 7 specific head and neck muscle areas that may be contributing to the development of headaches. The recommended dose of Botox is 155 units in 31 sites, but if your doctor thinks it is necessary, he or she may decide to inject additional units of BOTOX.
It is recommended to receive treatment 12 weeks apart.

Preparing for treatment
We recommend to come 15 min before your procedure to fill out necessary paperwork. After this the procedure itself takes 15-20 minutes. The needle size is very small. You can go home as soon as your treatment is done.

Price
There are 2 parts which need to be considered:
1. Injections fee - 150 $. It is paid to the doctor. You will be provided with the receipt. If you have private insurance, It may cover the cost. Please, check with your insurance.
2. Price for the vial of BOTOX - it is approximately 800$, so it is imperative to have it covered by your insurance. Many insurance companies cover the cost. Please, verify with your insurance company.
After initial consultation, if both - the doctor and the patient- feel that BOTOX is appropriate treatment option, you will be provided with a prescription for BOTOX. You may fill it at your pharmacy. Be sure to keep it cold. Alternatively, we can send the prescription to the Botox support program and they will send the vial directly to our office.
